Benefit Corporations: Aligning purpose and practice
Varsity was born out of our commitment to helping students and educators. This passion and purpose spanned a decade of good work in the Bay Area and expanded to the social impact sector. But we believe that doing good isn’t enough for any organization — one must put a stake in the ground and lead the next generation of businesses.
In 2011, Varsity began the process of becoming a Benefit Corporation. Like nonprofits, we knew that Varsity should only exist for the long term if the mission of the organization was grounded in our existence and practices, in addition to our values. Action speaks louder than words.
In 2012, we were accepted as a B Corp member. And just months later, we became only the third company in California to change its corporate structure to a formal Benefit Corporation.
You can make this change as well. Learn how to become a Benefit Corporation.

Committed to serving the people and our planet
Varsity has been a Certified Benefit Corporation (B Corp) since 2012.
We adhere to our intentional decision to become a business that balances jointly held goals around People, Planet, and Profit. Our ethical framework drives every business decision we make: from who we hire to the vendors we partner with to the way we deliver services to our customers. We see our commitment to the B Corp movement as one way we continuously try to be better — to ourselves, our community, and the clients we serve.
Upholding ethical standards
We are accountable to uphold certain ethical business standards that are evaluated on a yearly basis.
We join a community of other B Corporations that are looking to change how businesses operate in the world and are committed to using business as a force for good.
Taking Action on Climate Change
We've always made a priority to be good stewards to the environment and lower our carbon footprint. It started with in 1997 with bicycling to client offices and being an earlier adopter in 2010 of allowing remote work to reduce carbon footprint. Today we've gone much further by aggressively leading in Carbon Neutral. Our goal is to be carbon negative by 2030.
